Julie Coggiola is an award-winning vocalist, multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, lyricist, arranger, and educator who is skilled in multiple genres. Hailing from Syracuse, New York, she earned a Bachelor’s in Music Education from Syracuse University as a jazz and commercial vocalist with a Performance Honors Certificate in classical clarinet. While in school, she taught vocal and instrumental private lessons, children’s theatre, and summer school music programs for students with disabilities. She also worked in event and venue management for several years.
Recently graduated from the University of North Texas earning her Master’s of Music in Jazz Studies, Julie was a jazz voice teaching fellow. She carried out responsibilities such as assistant directing the flagship UNT Jazz Singers, directing Avenue C Vocal Jazz Ensemble, and teaching private jazz voice lessons, among other duties. Julie performed with numerous ensembles, including the UNT Jazz Singers and the Three O’Clock Lab Band. After graduating, she was invited back to co-teach UNT’s Vocal Jazz Summer Workshop alongside her mentors, Jennifer Barnes and Rosana Eckert.
Currently, Julie is showcasing her vocal prowess as an adjunct voice professor at the University of Texas at Arlington and Dallas College, while also maintaining a large private studio. She also directs the Adult Voice Training Choir at the HanOpera Music Academy. On top of it all, Julie is an active performer in the Dallas-Fort Worth Area. She performs her own arrangements and original music in combo and big band settings.
In the summer of 2024, Julie was a recipient of the U.S. Air Force Bands Diversity Fellowship, which allowed her to perform a concert with the USAF Airmen of Note. She co-presented research at the 2025 Jazz Education Network Conference.
Julie's singing is versatile, electrifying and reminiscent of a dynamic combination of greats. Drawing inspiration from Nancy Wilson, Carmen McRae, Sara Bareilles, and Karen Carpenter, Julie is an expressive, soul-touching performer who is committed to caring for her audience through a well-crafted show. Her arrangements are masterful, capturing the true meaning of a song’s lyrics.
Her original music fuses jazz, theatre, and popular styles. She blends elements of genres together, creating a unique sound that is both soothing and intriguing. Julie's songs draw inspiration from her personal experiences and the world around her.
